NOTARIZATIONS
- Know what type of notarization you will need (Acknowledgment, Jurat or Oath/Affirmation). A notary cannot provide legal advice, so you must be able to tell the notary what type of notarization you will need. An explanation of the types are listed on our Services page.
- Make sure your document(s) are filled out and complete prior to your appointment. No blank spaces. If you have document questions consult with the entity requesting the document or legal counsel. A notary cannot advise how to complete a document nor give advice on the legal effects of a document.
- Do not sign and date on the signature line, wait until you are in front of the notary.
- Bring an original government-issued photo id. Examples: State ID Card, Passport, Military ID (with signature), Driver License Commercial Driver License. Photo copies will not be accepted.
- Make sure the name on your ID matches the name on the document.
- Make sure all signers and witnesses (if applicable) will be physically present at the time of the notarization.
- All signers must be of sound mind, aware, and willing to sign. Our notary must be able to have an effective two-way conversation with the primary signer and the signer must be able to discuss what they are signing.
- If you need a witness, they must understand their role. A witness is a neutral third party who watches the parties sign legal documents. They confirm the identities of all the signers and that no forgery occurred. They will also sign documents. They must be at least 18 years of age and of sound mind. They cannot benefit from the document being signed or related to one of the signers.
- Know what you will be paying. Engage can provide an initial quote. Please note - the quote can change based on the number of documents to be notarized as well as the number of signatures.
*Our Notary can refuse to complete a notarization due to the following:
- Lack of proper identification.
- Incomplete, inaccurate or false documents.
- Suspected signer incapacity, coercion, or inability to communicate effectively with the signer.
- Conflict of interest.
- Violation of notary regulations.
